The story is still going strong and when I sit down to watch this drama, time actually flies. Each week, I am left wanting more. Now, this is the true feature of a good drama. Each episode has something to offer and every character is there for a reason. Script, direction and particularly acting have all come together wonderfully to make this drama a complete package.
Ashraf has fallen head over heels in love with Ifra and despite her strong dislike for him, he managed to convince his mother to ask her parents for her hand in marriage. Simi Raheel is doing a fabulous job, as a mother whose children donot get along and her heart is torn. She has to intervene every single time to protect her daughter’s interest and try and talk some sense into Ashraf. Despite being ” Baybuss ” in most situations, she did manage to grab that perfect opportunity to ” blackmail ” Ashraf into allowing Sayra into getting admission in the university. She played her cards well, she is the perfect example of countless mothers who know their children’s psyche and know how to handle them. She knew she would never be able to reason with Ashraf, so she immediately bargained with him, as soon as she got the opportunity :)
The writer deserves a huge round of applause, she has defined her characters fabulously and with amazing clarity. The women in Ashraf’s house know what they are up against, both their father and older brother are complete hypocrites and jahils, they have tried hard to suppress the women in their house cause frankly they are both dictators and bullies in their own ways and morally, rationally and intellectually speaking, they are no match to these women. In order To cover up their injustices, they use force. The women might be weaker but with time and experience they have learnt to survive and deal with these men. Khadijah’s divorce devastated her, she was heartbroken and shattered but she refused to give up and instead of giving up on life , she decided to channel her grief into something positive. Now, she is taking a stand for her younger sisters and along with her mother, she is proving to be a shield for them. Her courage is giving her sisters strength.
Saboor Ali ( Sahira ) is another strong female character in this drama. Despite her circumstances she has managed to convince her father to allow her to go to the university but her problems are never ending. Ashraf is keeping a Hawks’ eye on her and is just waiting for her to make a mistake, so he can rub it in his father’s face and put an end to Sahira’s education. Saboor is a very talented actress and her choice of characters has been really good. She delivered a very powerful performance in ” Rung Laga ” as Faisal Qureshi and Saima’s oldest dughter and now again, although she might not be playing the lead but still her character has a lot to offer and she is doing complete justice to it.
Irfa’s parents reaction to Ashraf’s actions was as expected. They are a respectable middle class family and Irfa is their only child. They know what people like Ashraf are capable of and they fear for their daughter’s safety. They took all the precautionary measures they could think of, only time will tell if those measures were enough.
” Mohabbat main jabar aur Zor-zabardastti Nahi hoti ” words of wisdom that came out of Ashraf’s mouth. So far, I thought him to be a complete barbarian but I guess he might have some decency in him afterall. After Irfa’s parents flatly refused his marriage proposal, Ashraf felt disrespected and outraged. The man who has been engaged twice before could not think of any reason why Irfa’s father said no to him. In his head, he is quite a catch and a perfect match for Irfa, once again credit goes to Afifa Mohammad for capturing the psyche of a typical, illiterate gunda so brilliantly.
Nauman Ijaz is phenomenal as Ashraf. It was hilarious to see a tough guy figuring out ways to impress the woman he loves. So his sidekicks suggested, he should give her a gift, an expensive one; to impress her. The gift selection process again, showed Ashraf Munir’s class; the language he used, the way he described what he wanted to buy…was really fun to watch. Ashraf’s character is complicated, it has been balanced well, he is very inflexible when it comes to running his business but we see a completely different side to him when he comes face to face with Irfa. On that note, one thing I didn’t understand, Ifra’a parents strictly forbade her from going out alone, then why was she coming home alone when Ashraf tried to give her the gift ?
Hammad and Irfa are in love, it was just a matter of time before these two fell in love and expressed their feelings for eachother. Hammad is everything Irfa wants in her future husband and we know, Hammad is a supporter of women’s education and empowerment, so obviously Irfa is the one for him. That telephone call was just ” o so sweet “, I think it’s safe to say, I wasn’t the only one cheering for them :). I do however wonder, of this was a wise decision on Hammad’s behalf. His mother warned him about Ashrafs interest in Irfa but he brushed it off, something tells me, Ashraf isn’t gonna move out of their way.
I am totally loving this drama, if you haven’t started watching it then do give it a go, you won’t be disappointed:)
