Ashraf is on the road to redemption and it’s not an easy path. He is aware of the pain he has caused everyone and now wants to make amends but the problem is , not everyone is ready to forgive just because he is willing to be forgiven. All his life Ashraf has been a tough guy with a huge ego, asking for forgiveness needs a lot of humbleness. The journey for him is not easy but he is determined to make things right.
Nauman Ijaz has made this journey totally believable and has won the viewers’ sympathies on the way. Ashraf is not a two faced person, he is who he is. When he hated his sisters, he made it clear and now when he is asking for their forgiveness, again he is not mincing his words. The most important point at such scenarios is that each character should stay true to who they really are, just because Ashraf has changed dosen’t mean so has everyone else. Since Khadija has always been the soft hearted one, she easily forgave her brother once she was convinced he was truly sorry. Saira and Sufiyaan on the other hand, were not so ready to forgive and it was in keeping with their characters. So, it’s good to see that the writer is keeping it real .
The scene between Rabab and Ashraf was also done brilliantly. Ashraf was eager to be on good terms with her and in his haste he forgot about Ifra’s mother’s Iddat. The way he suddenly decided to change the engagement date to accommodate Sabiha Aunty didn’t go unnoticed, while Rubab might not be the smartest one in the house, she did notic and brought it to Ashraf’s attention that if he was doing all this for Ifra’s happiness, it won’t work. With love, kindness and trust Rubab’s relationship with Ashraf is changing and so is she as a person. She is more confident now than ever before.
Nauman Ijaz’s soliloquy was again well thought out. It was necessary for Ashraf and the viewers to find out what is the nature of Ashraf’s interest in Ifra ? Is his only concern is due to the fact that she is his brother’s widow, does he feel guilty or is he still in love with her. Although these questions weren’t answered, it was still good to see him thinking about it.
Ifra’s ZID of moving out of Ashraf’s house and her mother’s attempts at calming her down were both interesting and heartbreaking. Her mother is also mourning the loss of her husband along with the loss of her damaad and grandchild and on top of that she has to take care of her daughter who is not in her senses. Ifra is young and naive, even after suffering so much , she still believes she and her mother can live on their own. Her thinking at times does become a little irritating considering what she has gone through but still, she is not old enough, experienced enough and mentally stable enough to know what would be the effects of such a decision. It is heartbreaking to see that they don’t have anywhere else to go, even if they don’t feel welcome at Ashraf’s house anymore, they can’t leave.
Muneer Ahmed’s decision was not something we hadn’t expected but the timing was definitely surprising. His announcement took everyone by surprise, his family and friends that is. Although many viewers might not be happy with this decision, thinking there is no compatibility between Ifra and Ashraf, if looked at the situation from Muneer Ahmd’s point of view, it all makes complete sense. Ifra is not the person she once was, it is harsh even cruel to say that but at the end of the day, this is the ground reality. In a society where mothers want a virgin bahoo for their ( 2 bachoon k baap ) divorced or widower sons, what future prospects are their for a widow, who has had a miscarriage and on whose reputation there is a question mark . Muneer Ahmed is a wise man with a big heart, he is treating Ifra like a daughter. He can see things which Ifra cannot, he is trying to protect her and look out for her. Of course it isn’t easy for Ifra to accept this decision but I have a feeling eventually she will. At the same time I think Muneer Ahmed is trying to reward Ashraf’s good behavior, he is happy that his only son is taking care of the family business, is now taking interest in his sisters’ happiness and therefore he also wants to his his son happy and contented.
Now the only question on my mind is, Why was Ifra’s mother so dolled up ? The lady is still in her Iddat so what was the reason behind her red dupatta and those huge earrings ? Personally I have no problem with it but just a few scenes before that she was sitting in the engagement ceremony in a different look.
Finally Sufiyaan and Saira are on good terms, the credit goes to Saira. She is the mature and wiser of the two, while Sufiyaan was still missing Khadija and ignoring the reality of his life, it was Saira who jolted him out of his slumber. She is the one who can see things for what they really are.
Rubab and Jawad are getting what they desired, it was so good to see these two so happy. The entire family is celebrating their engagement but I am more interested in watching the long term effects of all this on Khadija , will she feel left out ? Every one around her is starting a new chapter but she is the one who is still standing where she was after her divorce . Yes she is a saaf dil, naik neyyet larki but she is still only human. I do wish they find someone nice for her and get her married soon, so she can finally move on.
