In the last few years, our channels have presented some amazing comedy and rom-com tele-films on different TV channels. In this post, I will be presenting a list of the most wonderful Pakistani comedy and romantic comedy tele-films that I have come across.
BURNS ROAD KI NILOFAR
Starring: Faiza Hasan, Abid Ali, Hina Dilpazir Khan, Nabeel
Channel: ARY Digital — Written by: Faseeh Bari Khan — Directed by: S. Mazhar Moin
Burns Road Ki Nilofar (7th KARA FILM FEST winner) is the usual black-comedy by the Faseeh Bari – Mazhar Moin, however, it is one of the funniest among the work that they have done so far. Burns Road Ki Nilofar explores the life of Nilofer, a precocious 16-year-old girl who lives with her hassled mother, disciplinarian father, and eight younger siblings in a cramped flat in the lower-middleclass neighbourhood of Burns Road. Nilofar, beguiled by the soaps on television, dreams of true love and falls for the young cable man who visits to fix her television connection. This sets in motion a series of half-comic, half-tragic events that encapsulate the constricting life she lives.
USP(s) – The brilliant performances by the cast and the amusing one-liners (especially those spoken by Abid Ali and Nabeel) make this tele-film one of the most hilarious ones ever made.
DIL CHAHTA HAI
Starring: Asif Raza Mir, Sajid Hasan, Manzoor Qureshi, Angeline Malik
Channel: GEO TV — Written by: Ali Imran — Directed by: Yasir Nawaz
Dil Chahta Hai is a hilarious tale of Danny, Jelly, and Rocky three middle-aged friends with failed previous relationships, who share the same apartment. Their lives are pretty boring, but one day – enters Gaisoo. All three men fall in love with her and start their attempts to woo her. What follows is a chain of hilarious events and side splitting humour.
USP(s) – The great chemistry and comic timing of Asif Raza Mir, Sajid Hasan, and Manzoor Qureshi. Other than that, the wonderful script and hilarious one-liners make it a must watch.
AB SET HAI
Starring: Azfar Ali, Mani, Adnan Shah (Tipu), Salma Hasan, Naveen Waqar
Channel: GEO TV — Written by: Azfar Ali — Directed by: Azfar Ali
Ab Set Hai takes the characters from the hit sitcoms Yeh Cheez and Sab Set Hai and depicts their lives ten years later. The tele-film showcases three subplots that are intertwined together; Azfar and Salma (un)happily married and getting into tussles over trivial things, Mani trying to woo the classy and sophisticated Naveen, and Tipu trying his best to woo his co-worker who keeps calling him ‘Pintoo bhai’.
USP(s) – The wonderful performances by the members of the cast, along with the witty dialogues (special mention – Mani trying to act classy and rich to woo Naveen), all make this tele-film an interesting watch.
BILLO KA TICKET KATGAYA
Starring: Mohib Mirza, Sohail Asghar, Maira Khan, Irfan Motiwala
Channel: ARY Digital — Written by: Ali Imran — Directed by: Mohsin Mirza
A tele-film that’s one of its kind in terms of the unique characters and the unusual story, Billo Ka Ticket Katgaya explores the life of truck drivers and conductors in Karachi. Sajju is a bus conductor who falls in love with his passenger Billo, but he’s not the only one in love with her, his boss (Ustaad) has given his heart to Billo as well. What follows are some hilarious events coupled with lots of Indian songs and funny dance moves.
USP(s) – The great chemistry between Mohib Mirza and Sohail Asghar and their takes on Maula Jatt and other Punjabi movies, unique and interesting characters, and wonderful direction make this tele-film a part of this list.
KASH TU MERA BAAP NA HOTA
Starring: Ismail Tara, Vasay Chowdhry, Syra Yousuf, Javed Sheikh, Seemi Pasha, Lubna Aslam
Channel: GEO TV — Written by: Vasay Chowdhry — Directed by: Nadeem Baig
The tele-film narrates the tale of Sasha and her authoritarian father (ex- DG ISI Malik Tara). When Sasha tells her father that she is in love with Ifran, he’s up in arms. Things only get worse when Sasha pressures her father to meet the man she loves and his family, as they turn out to be extremely laid back, happy-go-lucky, and informal people. Desperate to get rid of them by hook or by crook, Malik tries every trick in the book to drive Ifran and his family away. The question is will Zarak Malik’s tactics succeed or will true love reign supreme?
USP(s) – A brilliant performance by Ismail Tara as the uptight ex-Intelligence officer, Javed Sheikh and Vasay Chowdhry’s comic timing, amusing dialogues, and classy direction make this tele-film special.
DIL DAINA SEEKHO JEE
Starring: Azfar Rehman, Ayesha Khan, Hassan Niazi, Badar Khalil.
Channel: AAJ TV — Written by: Mohammed Ahmed — Directed by: Nadeem Baig
The sweet tele-film depicts the love triangle of Sabeen, Azfar, and Hassan. Sabeen has a breakup with Azfar (Hassan Niazi) and is extremely depressed. ENTER Hassan (Azfar Rehman), Sabeen’s best friend, who shows up at her house and forcefully announces his wedding with her. The events that follow are hilarious, and the cute ending leaves one smiling with a few tears here and there.
USP(s) – Azfar Rehman and Badar Khalil’s performance, wonderful and memorable dialogues, and Nadeem Baig’s strong direction make this tele-film a fun watch.
PHUPPO KA LARKA YA KHAALA KA LARKA
Starring: Mani, Danish Nawaz, Hira Tareen, Aamir Qureshi, Shehryar Zaidi
Channel: ARY Digital — Written by: Zain Raza — Directed by: Essa Khan
This hilarious comedy depicts the tale of Maira, whose parents want her to get married to their respective nephews and call them over to woo Maira. Then come, Maani and Daani who are total buffoons and try their best to woo Maira, with Daani failing in his attempts completely, and Maani performing a bit better. However, KAHANI MEIN TWIST HAI… ENTER Pappu, another cousin who is the typical villain from a Punjabi Lollywood film and can resort to anything to get Maira. The situations of Daani and Maani trying to woo Maira along with her kidnapping are out-and-out hilarious!
USP(s) – Maani and Danish Nawaz’s unbeatable chemistry and comic timing, hilarious and witty dialogue, and Aamir Qureshi’s performance as Pappu make this one of the funniest and entertaining tele-films ever made.
GANJINI 2
Starring: Sikandar Sanam, Uzma Tahir, Shehzad Raza, Kanwal Nazar, Wali Sheikh

This witty spoof of Aamir Khan starrer Ghajini is one of the best ones among the list of (late) Sikandar Sanam’s many spoofs of Bollywood films. The tele-film talks about Sanjay Singhania whose girlfriend Sanjana is ‘murdered’ by Ghajini using eggs, and he too is injured because of being hit by the eggs which gives him short term memory loss. He then plans a revenge on Ghajini and the events that lead to the culmination are extremely funny.
USP(s) – Sikandar Sanam’s wonderful performance, the side splitting humour, and top notch direction make this tele-film worth watching.
DULHA BHAI
Starring: Nauman Ijaz, Hina Dilpazir Khan, Sumbul Iqbal, Fatima Effendi
Channel: HUM TV — Written by: Faseeh Bari Khan — Directed by: S. Mazhar Moin
Dulha Bhai is a bold and funny tele-film that has the stamp of Faseeh Bari – Mazhar Moin combo in each and every scene. Dulha Bhai is set in a lower middle-class neighbourhood of Karachi where Tajammul resides with his wife and lots of kids. The tele-film explores the relationship of Tajammul with his sister-in-laws that borders on the line of affection and flirtation. This black comedy is one of its kind because of the unique story and wonderful characterizations.
USP(s) – Nauman Ijaz and Hina Dilpazir’s power packed performances, intelligent and witty dialogues, mature handling of the bold subject, and a realistic depiction of the characters and their lifestyles make this tele-film a must watch.
ANOKHEY RAQEEB
Starring: Ahmed Hassan, Ushna Shah, Hassan Ahmed, Sana Askari, Waseem Abbas
Channel: HUM TV — Written by: Zain Raza — Directed by: Angeline Malik
This hilarious rom-com depicts two couples in love that have a plan- while Imran decides to call Sonia over at his place in the guise of a cook, his wife Maira suggests her love interest Zaid that he should come over to her place as a driver, to fool Imran’s doubtful and cynical servant ‘Uncle’. The following events result in a comedy of errors where everyone is pretending to be someone they are not, and in the meanwhile, love blossoms between the couples.
USP(s) – Wonderful performances by the entire cast (special mention Ahmed Hassan), side splitting and hilarious dialogues, entertaining screenplay, cute romance, and wonderful direction make Anokhey Raqeeb one of the funniest and sweetest tele-films I’ve ever seen.
