Besharam Episode 8 – 11

So sorry for late reviews :), hopefully I will be posting on time from now on.

Mishal is back at Haider’s house and her inlaws are now trying to accept her. Try as they may, things are not getting any easier for Mishal and Haider. Their relationship is constantly under the pressure of factors beyond their control. Both have left their respective worlds to come together but their is no escaping their past. Mishal and Haider have maintained their dignity and never compromised on their principles but in these episodes we were also given an insight into the ugliness of both politics and showbiz worlds. The CM is more concerned with stalking a married woman and negotiating the right Price with her husband than serving those who elected him. While people like Kabeer are using and blackmailing simple and naive girls like Saba, yes there are people like Jaani too, who are more budnaam but are actually very professional and principled.

The pace of the story has gradually decreased but it is still very interesting. The characters are all very believable and their stories are quite relatable. This is the one factor that is making this story so much fun to watch. Each character comes from a different world and has a story of his/her own to tell. Mishal and Haider might be the lead couple but the rest of the cast is equally important for the story’s development.

Atiqa Odho is fantastic, she is doing complete justice to her role. A lady who is used to being the centre of attention, always getting her way and then her favorite daughter does the unthinkable. She is shocked and devastated but not for long :) . She wastes no time in getting back together with Jamal Ahmed, the man who insulted Mishal and whose son broke her heart. A very unconventional move for a mother but this is no typical mashraqi maa, she cannot stand to be left alone for long. I am confused as to why she wants Misal to come back home. Is she genuinely worried about her future or is she disappointed that all her hopes and dreams that she had for Mishal are doomed ?

” Nadaan doost say Dana dushman baihter hai ” , this saying holds true for Saba. As a character she is very interesting and authentic to watch. Yes she is very silly but she also came across as someone totally harmless, on the contrary she has proven to be quite the opposite. She did commit the worst mistake of her life by trusting Kabir but then she threw Mishal under the bus to save herself when her father questioned her about it. She is also a living, breathing prove of the fact that those mothers who are more interested in keeping themselves well informed about the neighborhood gossip, can easily loose track of their own children’s activities.

Wahab is not as harmless or naive as I had thought him to be, he knows his mother in law only too well ” ager Tumhari shadi mugh say na hoti na Sofi Jaan, to  tumhara chotha baap to mainnay hi hona tha ” and yes now I am realizing why Mishe hates him so much. This guy is even hitting on the maids, No wonder poor Sofi can’t stand him. He is a complete chichora, with a fantastic business sense.

Qadeer and Hamna’s relationship is over but they are both having a hard time getting over it. Like Haider says , Qadeer is not man enough to take a stand for Hamna but this can’t stop Hamna from thinking  about him. These two are the most simple and sincere characters in the drama and it’s a pity to see them both suffer due to other people’s actions and decisions.

I have to mention the scenes between Haider and Mishal. These two are very strong, mature and independent people who are not used to taking orders from anyone. Naturally when they came together there had to be some friction in their relationship but the way the writer has shown their growth after marriage is simple yet beautiful. They are still getting to know each other, fighting, making up, misunderstandings and their nook jhoonk is way better than the cheap romantic scenes we so often have to watch in other shows in the name of romance. Haider and Mishal’s relationship is much more mature than the ordinary romances, they are accepting eachother for who they are, accepting their respective pasts and eachother’s families…that is the sign of a more healthy, practical and lasting relationship :)
