The very filmy action had a very realistic reaction. Both Haider and Mishal made a huge decision in a heated moment and immediately afterwards regretted it. But it was too late, now they have to face the consequences.
Haider was the first one to come to his senses or chicken out, whichever way you want to put it. He did make some huge claims about ” mari izzat bun jaow “, but as soon as his words were put to test, he was shocked, this wasn’t a reaction he was expecting from Mishal. We know Mishal was going through a rough patch, she was not in a proper state of mind, so she accepted Haider’s proposal without thinking about it. Yes, she did know it wasn’t a good idea, Infact it was the worst idea in the history of bad ideas but once she made a decision, she stood her ground; unlike Haider who was thinking about divorce as soon as he signed the ” Nikkah Nama “.
The scene in the car was brief but meaningful. It was dawning on Haider, how his family and specially his Taya will react to his shadi and he was trying to avoid that awkward show down. But instead of clearly telling Mishal the truth, he was rather focusing on the difference in their social status and convincing her that it was for her own good that he was telling her to leave and go home. Not that he was wrong, he knew the difference between their lifestyles was paramount but still he lacked the courage or rather had too much ego to accept, he had made a mistake. Mishal on the other hand was asking very practical questions, information about Haider’s background, his family and their expected reaction. She was equally scared but call it her desperate attempt at making the most out of a very hasty decision, she was still making claims about being able to adjust in Haider’s family. The conversation about loosing their father’s some how felt like a bonding point.
The reaction from both the families was spot on. Neither of them were willing to accept this spur of the moment shadi. Both had their reservations about this match made on live television, rather than Heaven and rightfully so. Haider and Mishal come from two entirely different worlds, they have their own lives and responsibilities and this one action not only was seen as a threat to tarnish their respective reputations but also it gave Haider’s Taya the much needed excuse to end Hamna and Qadeer’s rishta.
At this point I felt sorry for Mishal, she was again the easy target for Haider’s family to lay the blame upon. They were mad at Haider but the labels like ” Besharam ” were reserved only for Mishal, nobody questioned Haider’s morality. They were so proud and focused on their ” izzat-dar ” family and preserving the morality of their ” nasal ” thay they didn’t worry about attacking a young girl in a vulnerable position, it was wise of Haider to remove her from the scene or she might have become a direct target.
While Haider’s mother and sister’s reaction was very realistic, it was Mishal’s mother and sister’s reaction that was a little hard to digest. I guess we can expect this type of reaction from her mother but her sister could have intervened. They both just abandoned Mishal, like it didn’t even matter where she was or who she was with. They didn’t care.
The last scene between Haider and Mishal was a complete contract to their first meeting. Both had cooled down, common sense was prevailing and both had realized they had made a big mistake and they were thinking rationally about what to do next.
This episode was a treat to watch, the acting was brilliant all around, short to the point scenes, crisp dialogues, good direction … it ended too soon for me. Saba Qamar was as always brilliant, Zahid Ahmed also delivered a convincing performance, Sundas Tariq, Mehmood Akhtar sahab and the rest of the cast also did a great job.
I can hardly wait for next week particularly cause I am eager to see Haider’s political God father’s reaction to his marriage and also I am curious to see if Mishal’s father’s family would get involve in this matter or not. So far this drama is among a handful of brilliant dramas on TV, let’s hope team Besharam maintains their level of excellence.
