This episode was totally filmy and thoroughly entertaining. The third episode ended with Mishal’s step brother throwing her out of her father’s house and that’s where the fourth episode started from. Mishal coming home furious and humiliated and then suddenly going for a drive to relax. Next thing we know, she is taking a ride on a camel cart in a very picturesque but deserted road, while leaving her car on the road side.
Haider’s Taya and Tayi’s attitude changed once again as soon as they found out about his refusal and as expected that has put Hamna and Qadeer’s relationship in jeopardy.
This episode took a most unexpected and very filmy turn when both Mishal and Haider ended up on a live TV show. They started arguing and before anyone could calm them down, one thing lead to another and they were married. If you were looking for a realistic and believable series of events, then this episode would not deliver but if you are willing to just sit back, relax and not think too much about the realistic aspect of the story, then yes it was worth watching.
I still am not convinced on why Mishal’s attitude changed so completely, ok so she did face a number of tragedies one after another but still the Mishal we saw on ” The Afaq Show ” was not the Mishal we have seen in the last three episodes. She did not look like the confident, reserved, in control, so sure of herself , top model we have seen so far. This girl attacked Haider for no reason, she seemed more like a film actress whose career is coming to an end and in her desperation she is looking for anything to get publicity. Everything about her was so unlike Mishal, the dress, the somewhat weird hairdo, the expressions and the way she was acting , it was all not at all like her. Maybe she is reacting to everything that has happened in her life lately, maybe she has decided to not play nice anymore. Whatever the justification behind her actions, this Mishal was being stubborn and she wasn’t gonna let Haider out-ZID her.
Haider is an idealistic person, honest and blunt but the remarks he made about models, how Mishal was responsible for her father’s death and not having a mother…that was not what you expect from a gentleman. He was provoked but he is a politician and by now he has appeared on enough talk shows to know, how to handle these attacks in a professional manner. Instead, he kept adding fuel to fire. His counter attacks made Mishal furious.
Still, I am not convinced about why did Haider proposed Mishal, out of nowhere. She was mad, she told him to apologize for his remarks and I have to admit those remarks about ” izzat” , ” mayray ghar ki aurat “, ” Mari izzat bun jaow ” were offensive, even as a viewer I didn’t like what Haider said. It dosen’t matter who the woman was, what she was wearing or what was she saying, the point was, she was a woman, a human being, Haider didn’t have to like her, he didn’t have to agree with her but she did deserve to be respected. Haider did not come across as a mature character, he has been emotional and self-righteous from the very beginning and once again, he let his temper get the better of him.
The suspense that was created by the writer that gradually led to the nikkah was executed very well. The phone call between Qadeer and Hamna, discussing the new tensions in their family, Qadeer’s suspicions about Haider having an affair and Hamna’s defensive attitude for her brother; it was ironic because at that same time Haider was proposing to Mishal without thinking about his family. The suspense, tensions and speculations leading to that nikkah and both Mishal and Haider’s Taya’s family’s reaction was one thing that was realistic. Qadeer’s family’s reaction was like they were watching an India Pakistan cricket match.
This episode also highlighted two more points. The totally commercial approach of the so called professional anchors and the hypocritical attitude of the typical religious scholars. The anchor did not try to calm his guests down, rather he provided them With a molvi and witnesses to carry out the nikkah and the Molana sahab who Accidently came to the wrong studio, rather than lowering his gaze, he stared at Mishal and passed comments in his own way. This bizarre gesture was enjoyed by the guests and host alike, another one of our sick national pass times. We love to ridicule and belittle people from showbiz, specially women to make ourselves look more religious, moralistic, self-righteous and respectable.
So to conclude, it was once again Saba Qamar’s episode. She did a brilliant job. Everybody did a good job as far as acting is concerned, I actually liked the crisp editing this week. Loved the attention paid to the details in that load shedding scene ( Hamna talking on the phone with a candle in the background). This episode may not necessarily be realistic but none the less, it will lead to some very entertaining events in the future.
