This episode marked the death of Tahir Malik. After a drunken night, some how he couldn’t stand the nasty comments being made by his equally drunk friends about Mishal and he decided to end his life. In my opinion, that was quite sudden and unexpected. Such people ( jagirdaar/poticians/play boys ) are quite dheet and somewhat Besharam, so the most I would have expected was Tahir Malim taking his gun and shooting his friend but that didn’t happen. He decided to end his life. If only the writer had given him more time, I would have loved to see some more episodes starring Tahir Malik, his ex-wife and daughter.
Atiqa Odho’s character has been brilliantly developed, she is the desi version of ” dumb blonde “. She is gorgeous, romantic, loves life and three divorces still haven’t shaken her belief in finding her ” happily ever after” . She finally convinced Jamal Ahmed into marrying her but after he verbally abused her daughter, right infront of her, she didn’t have one single word to defend her daughter rather she ran after him to stop him from leaving her. This lady is a classic example of a self absorbed mother who always fails to take a stand for her children. All her life she had been cursing Tahir Malik and poisoning her daughter against him but when he died, she suddenly realized ” Hamara aik tallaque tha, hum nay kuch bohat acha waqt saath guzara hai “. First she never let her daughter love or forgive her father and when he died, she acted as if the loss was more hers than Mishal’s .
This episode introduced us to Sofia, Mishal’s half sister. It was already disclosed both the sisters weren’t on good terms, reasons are still not clear but thankfully Sofia is more sensible than her mother. Although the sisters don’t always get along but she is trying to look out for Mishal and yes, both sisters are tired of their mother’s romantic escapades.
All her life, Mishal had been facing and fighting circumstances created by her parents. She was still strong, living her life by her rules but eventually she lost on that front, thanks to her parents. The betrayal she had to endeavor at Danial’s hands, the heartbreak resulting from it, was the last nail in the coffin. She gave in. Her father’s suicide was another blow she couldn’t recover from. The saddest part perhaps, is that she dosen’t have a shoulder to cry on, a confidant to confide in. Mishal tried to do the right thing when she went to her late father’s soiam, the way her step brother treated her was disgusting. Nobody tried to stop him, for a moment there I thought maybe our hero , the man who gets into fist fights just so he can pay an orphan’s school fee, would stand up for a woman being pushed around but I was disappointed. Haider didn’t even try to help the damsel in distress.
On the other hand, Haider’s star is on the rise. After he was made in charge of the media wing of Asfand Sultan’s party and his pictures and interviews started appearing in papers, his Taya and Tayi’s behavior changed completely. With the developments in his professional life, there are certain developments in his family life too. His Taya is very proud of him and now that he is expecting Haider to have a bright future, he is willing to accept him as his son in law; whether he likes it or not. He is even threatening to call off Hamna and Qadeer’s engagement, if Haider dosen’t agree to marry Saba. Frankly Hamna is too good for Qadeer, if they break this Rishta up, and since Haider is on his way to becoming a celebrity, I am sure Hamna will be better off. As for Saba, she could use a dose of self-respect.
It is interesting to see Haider’s Taya has very high expectations now. Last week he was lecturing Haider on how corrupt the politicians are and how shamelessly they are stealing the nation’s wealth and now, he can’t wait for his own nephew to follow into their footsteps.
The satire on our double stands did not end here. Jamal Ahmed called Mishal a ” Besharam Model ” , whereas he ( I am assuming he is married ) being a married man is having an affair and his own shareef son, while being married to his cousin is romancing/trapping another woman. Strange, how the standards of Sharafat are so different for men and women.
This episode was well written and well presented. The strongest point for me is the acting, everyone is doing a brilliant job and each week, the episode leaves me wanting more. Just one problem, it’s been three weeks and Haider has consistently been wearing jackets even though it is summer, that is one point I don’t get.
