Many of the questions that were left unanswered in the previous episodes were unveiled in this one. All the money that Zubeida spends on her family does come from Farman’s pocket and it was because of Farman’s wealth that Bari Apa’s engagement with Ghazanfar was called off. It seems like Ghazanfar has moved on but Zubeida is more keen on mentioning the past whenever she gets a chance. I saw absolutely no relevance of Zubeida mentioning the past when she comes to Firdous’ with the proposal, it seemed like she was “flirting” with Ghazanfar so that it would be easier to convince him. Until now Ghazanfar has proved to be a very balanced individual, he does not take sides and does what is fair. Waqas Khan was an excellent choice for this role; I hope we will see him in dramas more often now.
The reason behind Shakeel accepting Zubeida’s authority is that she helps the family financially, he has no real respect for his elder sister, it is more of a bargain…she helps him out with the finances and he does things her way. Riffat of course is not at all comfortable with this trade off and I am sure we will be seeing her complaining often enough.
Firdous’ reaction to Farman asking Adeel to give Sharmeen company and later on when Zubeida comes with the proposal was very nicely done. I thought it was very funny when she asks her husband to marry Adeel with the next door neighbor’s daughter…it was more like anyone but Sharmeen. Zubeida obviously knew that Firdous will not be willing to accept this proposal that is whys she went straight to Ghazanfar and like Firdous said Zubeida Apa did not feel the need to ask Firdous how she felt about it. What I find odd is that both the sisters have one child each, it would have been good had there been some more siblings even if they did not have any substantial role to play. I must mention here that Mustafa Changezi’s dialogue delivery leaves a lot to be desired for, I know he is a newcomer and must be trying his best but I think he should get some more experience in modeling before he ventures into acting or it would have been nice if all of his talented senior actors could have helped him out to make his performance more presentable.
Zubeida is controlling, rigid and harsh but one must give her credit for being honest. She comes out clean when Ghazanfar asks her whether Sharmeen was interested in Adeel. Zubeida’s meeting with Jamal’s sister and Farman’s apology later on went to show that Farman has a soft spot for the girl and like most men he does not mind being the hero to this damsel in distress.
For me the highlight of the show till now has been the relationship between Zubeida and Firdous; the way Firdous does not want her controlling sister to have a say in her life and how Zubeida will go all the way to get what she wants has been very nicely done. Zubeida is not exactly evil and Firdous is not a bechari. Savera Nadeem is the perfect Zubeida and Arjumand Rahim was the ideal choice for playing Firdous. I am definitely looking forward to seeing more of these two in particular.
