Dil dhoondta hai jissay
Woh mil nahin sakta mujhay
Dil sun raha hai ussay
Jo sun nahin sakta mujhay
Ufff! What is it with this song? It has been stuck in my head since ages. And of course, it does not help that the soap of which this track was the OST has so many interesting memories attached to it (from university days). And, even though the drama was totally forgettable, I still remember many dialogues from it. For example:
“Jab pait main baatein bharee hui hon tou bhook kiyun lagay gee?” (Zeba Shehnaz)
“Tou kiya main bolon: Baharon gawah rehna?” (Raju Jamil)
“Peer Sahab! Peer Sahab! Kuch karen!” (Ghazala Javed)
The story was straightforward enough. There is a psycho lover played brilliantly by Adnan Siddiqui, whose target of affection is played by a naive Rabi Peerzada. What ensues is so hilarious it would have you gaping in amazement. The psycho lover fakes committing suicide and lures Rabi away from her wedding (to Ahsan Khan). When Rabi finds out it was all a hoax, she rushes back, only to find out that her parents have married her elder sister (Malaika of Mehendi) to her fiance. The only person who does not mind in the least is the character being played by Humayun Saeed because he likes Rabi. So it is a kichri upon kichri!
The other tracks of the story involve Sonia Khan and Kamran Jilani, Raju Jamil and Ghazala Javed, and of course, Zeba Shehnaz, who plays Ahsan Khan’s mother.
Now, why should this soap appeal to anyone? Well, firstly, it was hilarious most of the times. AND, we used to watch it while having lunch (we = dad and daughters). So it should come as no surprise that when we saw Ghazala Javed at the airport some time later, dad (without lowering his voice) said, “Oh look! The Peer Sahab lady!” She actually heard! Yikes!
Another reason I remember this drama serial is OF COURSE the title track. I am not a very big fan of Saleem Jawaid but here, he has done a brilliant job!
I cannot find this soap online at all, but if you do manage to get your hands on it, it is a huge cheer-me-up. Give it a try!
