One of the best things about this serial is that despite being a comedy it isn’t mindless nor does it patronise the audience with yawn inducing lectures. Some how the director has managed to strike that happy medium where we can laugh at Aunn and Zara’s silly mistakes but still achieve a certain level of empathy with their very normal ,characters and everyday dilemmas.
Like most fathers , Jamshed Saheb is finding it hard to let go of his beloved only daughter and cannot understand how his well trained Zara could possibly live in the(in his eyes) Chiriya Ghar or zoo that is Aunn’s household . The exchange between Father and daughter was refreshingly real, rather than the usual .”.Beti yeh abb tumhara ghar hai yehi jeena yehi marna “, It reminded me of when I first came back to visit my parents after my wedding and repeated a Punjabi joke my husband had told me and my father started grumbling ” ab tho uss ki tarah bolneybhi lag gaey hai” It was very sweet the way Zara almost subconsciously started making excuses for messy young husband and then defended his family , refusing her father’s offer to facilitate them living separately. When Husna hands Zara the keys to the car on their ill fated trip to the Cinema , she reads Aunn’s face and let’s him drive . When Jamshed starts to admonish Aunn for the accident that happens , despite being injured herself Zara covers for Aunn by saying that she was driving. The best scene today had to be when Zara leaves Dadi and goes back to Aunn’s room after seeing his miserable face trying to catch her eye so he could apologise . What followed was a very sweet ,almost romantic moment nicely cut off by Zara’s nervousness. . Poor Aunn his arm is definitely the source of much trouble ! Despite his misgivings , Jamshed has actually raised quite a decent young woman who is uninterested in fighting with her in laws ,actually knows not to expose her husband’s failings in public and achieves all of this without some preachy lectures about a woman’s place in society.
Meanwhile Aun is beginning to forget that he is supposedly uninterested in his wife and is trying to win her attention . Aunn spent most of this episode trying to get on the right side of Zara but poor thing all his plans seemed doomed to failure. His plan to take her to the movies ends up in a minor accident and his plan to manao her with flowers ends with her sneezing the house down because of her allergies.Despite all the bad luck coming his way it seems he is somehow connecting with Zara if not exactly the way he wants . The funniest scenes this episode had to be of Aunn asking his Chacha how to manao his wife …apparently Chachi Shabana keeps an iron grip on his Chacha ..the fingers twisted around a stick sounded horribly painful . The attraction between Aunn and Zara seems to be consolidating into actual , real feelings if only they would just stop competing with each other. Phupo’s advice was equally hilarious she has no idea how to manao someone but she does now a hundred and one ways to Manwao what she wants …..if there is a romance between her and the fauji ,it promises to be a clash of the Titans !
I think Maria mentioned in her review a few weeks back how much she was enjoying the background music ,I have to agree it is really working with the visual aesthetics of each scene . Another fantastic episode where we had not just one but two extra romances building up . Finally Manzar get’s a chance to flirt shamelessly with Zara’s friend Shella and Mr Fauji Jamshed again finds himself sparring with Phupo . Well done Haissem Hussain ,Faiza Ifthikhar and team AZ for another hilarious episode I may be wrong but this episode seems like the lull before a storm and I think things may well get serious next week . Finger’s crossed it stays this good .
