The highlight of this episode had to be a short but well put conversation between Manzar and Aunn about the lingering problem of all the attention still being paid to Aunn. Aunn might have exhausted himself by directng all his energy into getting married and thinking that as an escape route, but alas! Aunn fails to understand that ahh…. independence comes packed with 7:00 am morning jogs, constant unannounced appearances by your Father in Law and oh wait, another person in your bedroom, with little or no space for privacy. It also doesn’t helps if you consistently call dadi, phoophi, chachi and mom to whine about how your father in law is treating you. All of Aunn’s harkatain and nadaanpan makes Zara look far more mature in comparison.
The episode begins with Aunn unwillingly joining a morning run and wastes no time in letting his entire family know of his ill treatment. Of course Dadi also wastes no time in vilifying Zara’s father to anyone who will listen. Zara’s feelings of budding jealousy are also presented well as she feels twinge of animosity towards Aunn watching his family’s constant attention and love for him. Zara has never had that, and she wants a big part of that attentiveness and relationship. She views Aunn as another barrier to overcome. Zara and Aunn also learn that they both fell heads over heals in love with each other. Its ironic how both think that the other one is madly in love and married despite of families disapproval. Even though it is hard to pick and choose between favorite characters in this serial, but Phophoo is one heck of a character that by far takes the lead in my book. Her divorce story, even though tainted with sadness was narrated in such a hilarious manner, that you would think that she is feeding you some chatpati chaat while adding more garam masla to it while carrying on a causal conversation!
One scene that I felt very strongly about was done and portrayed excellently both by OKB and Maya Ali, was the one about lack of privacy in a bedroom. All the humor and hilarity aside, this scene brought up very poignant points about most arranged marriages in our culture. Aunn and Zara are thrown into a web of complications to sort things out for themselves, we see most young couples in our lives that struggle and try to overcome similar issues. The limits and sense of private space between two people becomes very blurred once you get married. Add in the tarka of a joint family to go along with this new beginning and we have an AunnZara in every family.
AunnZara’s greatest strength lies in the well-developed and etched characters that don’t let the viewers down. All characters are given equal screen time and are playing substantial roles in the plot. Five episodes later, and we are still going strong. There is no stopping Aunn Zara from becoming the next big thing if it continues to keep up! I am very interested to see how Phoophoo and Chachi bring Aunn’s dream of being independent down a peg or two . I am also intrigued by Husna’s character ,what role wil shel have in the future to play with Zara, as her mother in law. Will she become defensive and aggressive towards Zara, as Zara tries to pull Aunn away from the entire affectionate spotlight he has been thrust under his whole life? I feel that Aunn is one anchor that keeps the family together despite all the lingering differences. How will Zara struggle to make her place and take away Aunn’s? I am very excited to find out!
Best line of today:
Dadi: Us waqt say mere tidh main maroor uth raha hai, hai hai
Chacha: wah ama ji wah, waat tidh main phir raha hai aur bandha app nay sir howa hai ..
What did you guys think of todays episode? Has it lived up to the momentum it started with…and if you were to pick a team whose side would you be on? Zara or Aunn?
