Regular visitors to Drama Pakistani will know we are a tad obsessive, maybe even borderline compulsive about dramas and I maybe one of the worst of the worst offenders . My one hour appointment with a favourite drama is like a visit with good friends, I usually do not want to leave and savour every moment spent in the characters’ company.  Hence my disappointment at today’s episode, maybe after two week break I was expecting more but this week’s episode was disappointing. Despite the fact that several plot lines were cleared up: Zara is confirmed pregnant, Aunn’s plotting revealed and Jamshed apology to Nighat, it still seemed like filler.

It started of pretty well, with Shehna finding out the truth about Aunn from Manzar and declaring she would have to tell Zara. Note to Shehna, if he is willing to break the ‘bro code’ and spill the beans on Aunn to save his relationship, he’s a keeper. I think I had my hopes high for Aunn getting a good swig of his own medicine before the grand resolution. I really don’t think Aunn suffered enough…Now you ask why I would want my handsome Aunn to suffer. Well, I would have liked to see him grow and mature. While I loved all the typical desi drama inversion therapy Zara played on him like calling her sasural his Mayka and forbidding him to meet his family without his permission ,I wish we had seen Aunn struggling financially and mentally without the support of his family . Just missing their attention at breakfast was not enough for me. The flashback sequence of Aunn’s manipulations was too long and included scenes Zara, Shehna and Phupo were not actual witnesses to. Though I have to say Aunn screaming “Zara!” at the top of his lungs to wake his hapless Dadi is a gem that deserved repeating. Again, the sequence of Aunn’s fears of the strict exercise regimen his father in law will put him on if the couple move into Jamshed’s house was hilarious but ran a little too long for me.

The plus points of this week’s episode must include Phupo and Jamshed. Just the way Jamshed pronounces her name Nighat’s full name shows how much on screen chemistry these two have, it is a pleasure to watch them each week. The apology scene was kind of sweet and done with just the right amount of nuance and subtlety. Their interactions always seem to suggest they are on the verge of some realization of their feelings for each other. I really hope that we get some closure on this relationship next week and are not left dangling. I love Nighat Parveen; she is never down for long and deals with all that life throws at her without turning into a silent martyr or a weeping woman.

Meanwhile Zara’s good news is confirmed and Aunn declares his pregnancy “Zara mein maa banney wala hoon!” that line almost made up for some of the flashback I had to sit through. I think Osman is very good at comedy, he has proved it time and again but that birth announcement was in a class of its own. Zara was not impressed which was a little was surprising for a girl so young, in fact her whole outlook is very mature and quite heartening. She doesn’t let bitterness or feelings of revenge overtake her:welcoming Nighat Phupo to the her new home and doesn’t take the opportunity to complain to her father about her sasural . I have a particular allergy to silent martyrs and holier than thou types but a sensible person who knows when to be generous and let things go is always something to be admired. If Zara was as self-centered as Aunn, the situation would have gotten worse.There is nothing more disarming then sincerity and forgiveness without expectation.

I am so looking forward to next week’s finale. I hope we get all the loose ends tied up: I really want to see Manzar and Shehna tie the knot,I want to see a more mature Aunn  I really ,really want to see what happens to Jamshed and Ansa Nighat Parveen but most of all I want to see Husna when she finds out Aunn is has made her a grandmother.
