A serious but engrossing episode .There was a feeling of impending doom last week and this episode saw all of Aunn’s wicked schemes and plans come to fruition. Aunn’s family is so worried about the “stress” Zara is putting on him that they agree to let them live separately. I use the term ‘agree’ loosely, because it requires the premise of two parties and a negotiation but poor Zara never asked for such a thing in the first place. I am not sure who I felt sorrier for this episode: Zara, Husna or Nighat? Poor Nighat has yet to receive a word of apology or understanding, Zara is confused and lonely while poor Husna is preparing to go through the second biggest loss in her life.
It was nice to see Manzar and Shehna back in action and with all the gloom, Shehnas Adams family ringtone for Manzar provided a much needed laugh. Manzar’s insults and taunts usually fly over Aunn’s head but this time our hero’s burgeoning conscience allowed them to meet their mark. Even Aunn’s shield of complete self-centeredness is beginning to splinter under the weight of his family’s miserable faces. Aunn’s description of how his new house should not even have a second bedroom was funny and telling, he really thinks of Zara as a toy he simply cannot share. If only his family had afforded the new couple a little privacy or had Zara taken Aunn’s not so subtle hints, the situation would not have deteriorated to this. I have a feeling Aunn may well come to his senses soon because it is time he grew up. From the looks of it he is about to become a father and perhaps that will make him realise the amount of sacrifice and love his mother has invested in him.
As usual everyone’s acting skills were well up to the mark. I have a special word (or maybe two) of praise for Maya Ali who managed to make me sympathize with her this week: good job! Hina Bayat’s Husna was the world’s sweetest mother this week. We are so used to seeing mother in laws as demanding Viragos on screen but in reality most mothers are only concerned with their child’s happiness. Finally Osman stopped pulling faces and managed to bring all the nuances his character’s changing personality required to the fore. This episode I could see glimpse of caring, sensible man through the cracks of Aunn’s boyish shell.
Aunn’s selfishness has thrown a spanner in the works of Manzar’s fragile love life: after seeing Zara’s misery Shehna has no wish to join the club. I think there will be fireworks next week, Nighat Phupo is quietly determined to confront Jamshed about his daughter’s behavior and after finding a girl willing to put up with him Manzar, doesn’t seem the sort to give up that easily. Thanks To Haissem Hussain for a beautifully crafted episode and Faiza Ifthikhar for a deftly woven but simple story that has captured our interest for so many weeks.
