Aunn Zara Episode 13 Review : Toxic Love…?

After another fabulous episode of Aunn Zara, I bow to the genius that is Nasreen Qureshi. She makes this Dadi so perfectly infuriating and completely lovable at the same time. Her philosophy is: assume the worst and ask questions later. So now Husna, Dadi and Zara have serious doubts about Nighat Praveen and Jamshed’s character. It is obvious the two are attracted to each other but they don’t seem to be in the throes of a soul crushing passion. Theirs is actually quite a sensible attachment of a mature couple who are at the beginning stages of what might be love. I like that neither is shown to be in desperate need of a spouse per se and seem to be living normal lives on their own, with hobbies, friends and family .It is the actual pleasure of each other’s company that draws them together rather than some deficiency in their lives like Aunn and Zara.images (7)

Zara loves Aunn’s family because she never had that attention as a child but she has forgotten that her connection to them is Aunn, he is the reason they have a relationship with her. Aunn may not be going about getting her attention in the right way but he has a point. He really has been given second place in Zara’s life. I feel for Zara, she missed out on all this motherly attention and female bonding as a child but at some point she will have to grow up . As to Aunn, the likelihood that he may grow up soon seems like a glimmer in the distant future. He will have to learn that pouting like an angry five year old is not going to get him the attention he wants. He is so in love with Zara that he cannot share her with anyone, but she is a person not a new toy he can keep to himself.

For once Manzar did not give Aunn his usual bad advice but their onscreen interaction was perhaps the best scene of the episode. They had my laughing out loud .You have to hand it to Manzar urf Mukarram Kaleem for making this role so memorable. Maya Ali was so much better this week making her Zara so much more Maya Ali was so much better this week making her Zara so much more relatable. I remember rooting for Meesha to fall for ‘Prince’ Mayer in her previous serial Ek Naeey Cinderella, well this makes up for my disappointment. I am guessing those dialogues were added by the cast, as was Osman’s rendition of Ek Naeey Cinderella’s OST…Yaar e man. Hmm In the tradition of South Asian storytelling and cinema a story is never complete without a song so here are a few for Aunn and Zara .I would love to hear your suggestions too gentle reader ..download (6)

Aunn : Primadonna girl, yeah all I ever wanted was the world I cannot help that I need it all….and alternatively toxic love

Zara: Sajana hai mujhey sajna ka leeye  ( hello, he is the reason you are in that house)

Jamshed and Nighat : if you liked it you should have put a ring on it …
