As an episode it was actually quite good but as a finale I for one had hoped for more depth. The way it the whole episode flowed and the cinematography were really good but as usual my strongest objections were to the script .It was obvious for some time that the Zaibu and Rohail were going to reunite but how, was the question? Rohail coming to the Mazar was perhaps the best scene in the entire episode, beautifully visualized and shot so well it raised my hopes again. I just loved the way the camera came in close to Rohail’s figure, pulled away and then, avoiding the usual clichés he walks over to a sad looking Zaibu, unfocussed in the distant foreground. Even the beginning dialogue was good but then it kind of fizzled away. I am not sure if the Ashk team realizes the fact, obvious to everyone else; that the reason we all stuck with this story despite its flaws was the compelling Zaibu /Rohail track. But as usual it was all Ajjo /Dinga and a few minutes at the end for the so called leads. The most heartbreaking part was that neither Rohail nor Zaibu was given the lines or the time to express any regret or empathy with each other. I really got the feeling that nothing at all had happened and Rohail was persuading his reluctant wife to go to the movies with him. After the gut wrenching trauma and unbelievable cycle of misery and infidelity these two went through we are supposed to believe that was it…Bus…Of course it does not matter that Rohail had crossed all limits with Madiha, that was all Zaibu’s fault, right? Wrong. No way is any sane audience willing to accept that. I am understand that Rohail as a character did something terribly wrong in his reaction to Zaibu’s dreadful behaviour but not once do we see him accept responsibility for his own actions.
Not one person offered the mea culpa they should have. Miss Mehru, aka Machiavelli’s daughter just stood there telling Zaibu off. Her horrible father would not admit his part either but at least he gave his poor daughter a hug. Bilal poor soul has disappeared to the wilds of Dubai and as usual he and his family do not matter but Ajjo and Dinga do…..constantly .There should have been a confrontation between Zaibu ,Mehru and their father. This entire story only makes sense if we accept the premise that Rohail’s proposal made Zaibu feel disgraced and humiliated in front of her family. Mehru silence in order to protect herself and Rohail’s unwitting complicity should all have been addressed. The only person who actually said anything of value was Madiha but that too was so vulgarly phrased that I cannot quite bring myself to repeat those words .Let us just say that the sentiments behind them were true enough. Rohail did use Madiha to revenge himself on Zaibu .But Madiha dear, you allowed it to happen, no one forced you. This is what people always miss about extra marital affairs: if they can do it to their spouse they will do it to you too. Poor old Madiha, I just feel sorry for her, if only she too had been allowed to learn something from this escapade instead of allowing herself to be treated as human garbage by Rohail.
I totally agree with Seemi Raheel in the beginning sequence about Rohail’s upbringing. It was nice to see Bedi Singh and Chinky Bhaya again. Thank goodness Chinky did not claim to be Zebu’s brother when he apologized to Rohail, one small mercy I suppose. Gratifying as it was to see Fawad in a suite I am just wondering what purpose that whole Lawyer scene served? Would not have that time been better used on the actual story? Sigh. Well It is over and we can all relax. As an adult I too must accept my part in this whole situation, so here comes the mea culpa: I watched it from start to agonizing finish and yes , oh Lord ,I got what I deserved.
