After the thunderstorm of emotions that had been raging in the past few episodes of Aik Nayee Cinderella, this one was clearly the lull AFTER the storm, with the main character (read Meesha) reflecting upon her past interactions with Rooman. You could actually feel the realization dawning upon her that the person with whom she has shared all her deepest, darkest secrets, who has been there for her all the time and who has, quite literally, given her a shoulder to cry on is – not Mayer!
For Meesha, Mayer was a fantasy – a personification of someone of whom she could only dream. An added advantage was that he was a complete ‘package deal’ of looks AND wealth. The kind of deprived childhood Meesha had faced attracted her immediately not just to Mayer but to the entire lifestyle that he represented: comfort and luxury, being waited on by servants and of course, one-upping Meher, Zainee and Aimee.
The clash of fantasy versus reality climaxed in this episode – with Meesha’s introspection dominating the entire episode. On the other side of the picture, Zainee made up with Mayer (honestly, I could not care less) and Aimee chummed up with the guy who loves to wear bright, eye-sore colours.
Mayer, however, surprised me today – yes, the character, not the actor. I had taken Mayer to be a rather shallow character. However, it seems Meesha leaves an impact wherever she goes and Mayer kept comparing her unconsciously with Zainee and her self-centered ways. Nevertheless, their engagement is going ahead – it’s interesting how Zainee calls Meesha ‘chipkoo’ (lady, it takes one to know one!)
Acting-wise, the episode was lovely. I could feel for all the characters whether it was the smirking Meher or the worried Granny. However, to some extent, the scene by the river, which was one of my favourite scenes in the novel, did not come through quite as well. Maybe it was Meesha’s tone which increased in pitch at the wrong time, or her way off pronunciation (Cin-dray-la), I don’t know. I wanted some more show of emotions in that scene. BUT all things considered, Faizan Khawaja and Maya Ali have done a superb job and one scene should not clout their overall commendable portrayal of the characters they are playing.
Overall, the dialogues, the locations, and the way they all came together were brilliant as usual! Again a two-thumbs up to the entire team for a wonderful job: Haissam Hussain, Faiza Iftikhar, and the rest. This drama serial makes for an easy yet wonderful and enlightening watch! I could not have asked for a better adaptation for this story on the screen! The next episode is promising some action, and I am looking forward already!
