This has to be one of the most hilarious episode of the entire serial – not to mention the one with the most ‘food for thought’ moments. Loved it, loved it, and loved it some more.
Osman Khalid Butt has definitely come a long, long way since the start of the serial. His portrayal of the unable-to-sweat-it-out,never-having-experienced-any-rough-and-tough-moments was brilliant. In the beginning, I had wondered if all Mayer was going to do was ride his horse, or walk around with ladies on his arm, but with 17 episodes down the line, it is so clear that there is much, much more to this character, which provides ample of covert insight into “Prince Charming” personalities and their character traits that become manifest when caught in unbecoming circumstances.
Mayer’s maiden journey on the train was definitely a comic relief. Off the train and on their own, whenever Mayer pushed Meesha forward, I could not help but reminisce about Rooman who had shielded Meesha from Meher Mama and said, “Kash main tumhain chupa sakta.” While Mayer wants to get out of Shahbad and fast, more for self-centred reasons than anything else, Rooman has thrown all caution to the winds, and is actually making the journey towards Shahbad, as promised to an ailing Granny. Brilliant all-round characterization by Faiza Iftikhar.
Something else that I was thinking about while watching this episode is how easy it is to say “main nay tumhain apna dil day diya” – or something similar which Mayer had said to Meesha, while proposing to her. Lip service, was all I could think. He is totally alright with Meesha while she does not ruffle any feathers of his Mom or him – but he is beginning to develop issues with the “rich heiress” Meesha who cannot give him her exclusive attention. If there is a choice between “her happiness” and “his comfort” it is easy to see where Mayer is inclined. To give him due credit though, he is still hanging around.
The locales in today’s episode were breathtakingly beautiful! I have written this in previous reviews, but somehow even with all the glitches and the stretching out of the story and episodes in which nothing seems to happen to move the story forward (not this one, though!), this is one of those rare serials in which you just get lost – as lost as you would be in a fairy tale albeit with a spin! And I mean “lost” in a good way. This is definitely a lovely mix of entertainment dotted with lessons throughout. Brilliant job by Haissam Hussain and co.!
With Farjad and Aimee on a journey towards the not-so-unknown, thanks to Rooman, Shah Baba intent on getting rid of Mayer, and Rooman walking into the lion’s lair with a plan of his own, the next episode definitely promises more action! Can’t wait already!
