I wrote in one of my previous reviews that Aik Nayee Cinderella defines “showing not telling” in a refreshing manner. The latest installment only augmented that view – instead of Granny sitting serenely on a sofa and narrating the goings-on in Meesha’s past to Bano (and Meher), the viewers are being taken back in time through flashbacks. I must say that even though I am a tad annoyed by the amount of screen time given to Shah Baba and co., I am totally intrigued to find out all that happened in the past and how Saifullah found and rescued Meesha. I am also glad we are being given an insight into all the minute details rather than having to resort to guesswork to find out answers to specific questions.
Moving on, Bano and Meher were a treat to watch – Meher’s dialogues and the way she is sabotaging Meesha’s reputation in front of Bano were fist-clenching and yet, you had to marvel at the way the lady’s brain works. I almost felt sorry for Bano – even though she needs to get off her high horse, it can’t be easy to come to terms with the lifestyle of someone like Meesha or bear someone like Meher living in her house.
Speaking of Meesha, I am not sure if it was an editing glitch, but I certainly did not see her in the kind of morose mood (in the previous episode) that Meher mentioned towards the beginning of this episode. Did I miss anything? It would have been nice to see a little more of Meesha’s emotions at Bano Mansion rather than just hearing Mayer and Meher refer to them. That said, the sequence where she and Mayer are strolling and she goes into a flashback mode re her romantic scene with Rooman was excellently done. In fact, all of Meesha and Mayer’s scenes were smile-inducing. I wish I could say the same about her scenes with Rooman – I definitely felt sorry for him today. He and Meesha need to have a heart-to-heart. Something tells me this might happen pretty soon with both of them visiting the designer!
Although the story progressed at a mellow pace, the flashbacks more than made up for them. The suspense factor has totally increased, and I cannot wait for next week! Well done Haissam Hussain, Faiza Iftikhar, and co.!
