The above just about sums up my shades of reactions to the different characters of Aik Nayee Cinderella’s eleventh episode. With a pace that was slightly mellow as compared to the previous ones, this installment nonetheless was packed with a mixture of action, reaction and reflection.
It is interesting how the story still has so much to offer – despite the fact that we now know for sure who loves who and where the story is headed, it is quite clear there is still some action left – and a little bit of suspense re Aimee and Farjad. So the way towards the conclusion of this particular serial will not be as straightforward as one might think. It will have plenty of detours. In this episode, we saw some of the detours aka Meesha overhearing only the wrong part of Surraya-Rooman conversation, and Meher trying her best to sabotage Meesha’s upcoming engagement with Mayer.
The character for whom I probably felt the most today was Aimee. Having stayed in Zainee’s shadow her whole life, no doubt Aimee feels wronged and neglected. Meher might have spent her entire life making things difficult for Meesha, but Aimee is not very far behind in always incurring the wrath and the snide comments of her mother and sister. It is an interesting comparison: Granny brings up Meesha and teaches her some realities of life (“Granny kehtee hein jab larka larki akeley hon tou larki ko apni aankhain aur dimagh dono khula rakhnay chahyen”). Meher brings up Aimee and Zainee (as Bano aunty pointed out in one of the earlier episodes) to be replicas of her own opportunist self, even when it comes to love and marriage. So while Meesha might be thinking about “her dreams” and “her ego”, Aimee is not very far behind in trying to one-up Zainee. Getting into a love marriage while Zainee has just been rejected would be the ultimate success factor for both Meesha and Aimee, and none of them are willing to forego their chances. What Aimee has gotten into is unbelievable – someone on the road asks her about her house and its inmates, and she decides it must be about a proposal and does what she did! What is Aimee getting into? And is her stupidity going to save Meesha? Only the upcoming episodes will reveal the nitty gritties of Shah Baba and their connection to Meesha’s past.
Granny is another character who I am thoroughly enjoying. Played to near-perfection by Nasreen Qureshi, I love the way she keeps an eye on everything going on inside her house and the kind of foresight she has. She had already foreseen that Bano would not accept any girl from Saif Cottage as her daughter-in-law and Bano aunty is proving right all her suspicions! Granny’s conversations both with Meesha and with Rooman were poignant and thankfully short and sweet! There was a point when they seemed to go around in circles and I was wishing the editing was slightly tightened on these scenes. However, they drove home the point that Meesha does love Rooman and is deeply hurt by what she thinks was an intentional prank to make fun of her.
One might be able to count on fingers the number of progress points in today’s episode. However, it still was as engaging and enjoyable. I say this every week but will do so once again! Well done Haissam Hussain, Faiza Iftikhar and the rest of the team for the complete entertainment and if I may so so educational package that is Aik Nayee Cinderella!
Before I sign off, here is a hilarious tidbit. My little one was watching ANC today with me (he often potters around when I am watching). When he saw Mayer, he asked, “Where is the horse?” And when he saw Rooman, he asked “Is he a Chowkidar?” LOL!
