Where was it that we ended last week…? Oh yes, on execution. Might I just say that “execution” has been a rather hot topic on the boards this week (hanji jao have a gander!). Anyways…
Hellooooooo Star Plus, meet A-Plus. ::insert drum roll here::
If every bad Hindi serial stereotype was brought together, thrown into a magic bullet, mixed and ground, and then poured into a glass we would have Adhura Milan. And, and, and… that magic bullet would go by the name A-Plus.
Why do I say that? For some odd reason the theatricality of Adhura Milan puts me off. You know the kind that you see in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi with its glammed up bahus, chikna mards, and naughty girls. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about and don’t give me that look ’cause I know you agree with me. The marbled, porticoed, and pillared haveli is a hard swallow in itself – REALLY?! Rule No. 1: khandani paisa is not showy. To top this off I have to sit through loud and garish costumes except of course Iffat Omar and Samina Peerzada, but hey, give them a simple shalwar-kameez and they’d still rock it!
Then, there’s the rather abused climactic music. Don’t tell me you haven’t noticed it every time Dilawer pops up on your screen. Not to mention the rather strained effort it takes to elicit an emotional response from certain members of the cast – Uzma, Alishba, Nayyab – while some need a lesson in toning it down. The costumes are a hit or miss – if Noor-ul-Aain channels every inch a Sindhi waderni then Mrs. Uzma Tabrez with her feigned Western sensibilities doesn’t hit the mark and doesn’t miss it either, she floats somewhere in-between, let’s hope it isn’t Neverland.
The acting is a toss up as the older generation consistently outperforms the younger one (and I haven’t even seen Iffat Omar as yet!). I encourage you to watch this series for Samina Peerzada, Alyy Khan, Faisal Rehman and even though I haven’t see her yet Iffat Omar (if the promos are anything to go by she will be her stunning self!).
As if all that isn’t enough to keep me away, which truth be told it didn’t, mujhe udti-udti kharbar aayee hai ki yeh drama takreeban sau (100) episodes tak to chalay ga. Ab isko mein drama (more like soap opera) kahoon ya na-kahoon woh to ek moot point hai lekin humara Adhura Milan ka safar itna lamba nahi hoga.
I wish you a pleasant viewing journey but I’m sitting this one out. I left Bunty I Love You on a high and in all honesty I don’t want to ruin that. I might revisit Adhura Milan time and again just to update you on how things are but until then this is goodbye.
Khuda Hafiz,
