Recently, Hum TV has experimented with the genre by introducing Deewana with a supernatural element in it. No, this is not the kind of drama where excessive special fx makeup is used on artists. Nor has it the mysterious sound effects for complimenting the theme of the drama. The only things that compliments the theme are the subtlety in dialogues and the acting. Shehroz Subzwari who plays the character of Adam/Falak has done a commendable job in not making the character too distant from reality. Here are the three things that makes Deewana worth a watch:
Depression killer
The protagonist in the drama, Mehru has sunken deep into depression because of the series of unfortunate events. Adam, who happens to be a supernatural being, understands her and tries to help her get out of the stagnant depression phase. Merely watching him do all kinds of ‘happy stuff’ will make you feel happy too. If you are a keen observer, you will take a note or two for yourself to keep depression at bay.
Not an emotional baggage
True, that the story began and still lingers on how a family was devastated (watch the drama to find out how) but it is well balanced with load of characters like Adam/Falak, his mother, Shabana and her daughter. Due to this balance, it is not the kind of drama that would leave you hiding your tears (yes, some of us try to be the robot in the family) at the end of every episode.
Fun to watch
Again, the story line is loaded with one tragedy after another for the Qureshi family. However, it is a fun watch that won’t suck away your will to live like some of the dramas (that have been tagged controversial lately). That said, it does not mean the dramas that highlight a social issue are not worth watching. Deewana is a lighthearted TV series that takes itself just seriously enough.
